Years ago I rode horses a bit, but it was something that I got out of practice with. It was a skill that was lost to time without consistent practice. Deciding it was time to re-find a lost passion as well as develop a new tool in my stunt performer tool bag, I saddled up again and started the journey of becoming a better horseback rider.

Hitting the ground running must be par for the course when having an instructor that has 19 years of riding experience that includes western, English and trail riding. Being instructed by someone who clearly has immense passion for what they teach is an intense experience. You can feel their passion bleed over into every word they say.
We dove right into how to care for a horse and etiquette for being around them, giving me hands on experience right off the bat. After that, we covered how to tack up the horses and make sure they were comfortable for the ride ahead, followed by us covering saddle comfort and walking.
Quickly, I realized just how out of practice I was. That thought only made me more excited to tackle this challenge and become better. The session ended on covering techniques for trotting and cantering/loping, as well as the proper care for the horses after riding. Getting to do the care that comes before and after riding is such a great addition on top of learning how to ride. Being able to care for the horse is just as important as riding one. Plus, through doing the care for the horse, I'm building trust between me and King George for when we move to the more advanced techniques.
Rediscovering lost passions, learning new skills for your career, and taking on new challenges: just gets better and better.
STAY TUNED for the next exciting development!
